Animated movies appeal to both adults and children. Animated movies have a long history, dating back to the early 1900's. Disney was, of course, one of the pioneers in this form of animation.

Animated Movies

Animated movies are often called cartoons. Artists create a picture on paper and allow technology to bring it to life. Today, many movies for both children and adults are animated. There are many examples of full length and feature length animated films designed for children and adults of all ages. These are made with the use of technology and many times that technology is so good that it looks as if the characters are lifelike.

The world's first animated movies came out nearly 100 years ago. In 1917, the movie The Apostle was released in Argentina. It was the first feature film in animation and was produced by Quirino Cristiani. A year later, Without a Trace was released in Argentina. These movies became examples of the type of movies produced over the next twenty years. Many of these early-animated movies were short, only about 70 minutes long.

A man named Walt Disney brought animated movies to the forefront of entertainment. In 1937, Disney's Academy Award Review of Walt Disney Cartoons was released in the United States. It was the first animated movie released in the United States and only the fifth in the world. It features many of the most amazing cartoons created by this professional.

Perhaps the most commonly thought of feature length animated movie is Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, which released in 1937. In many ways, it became the foundation for animated movies of the future through its use of technology and color.

Animated movies continue to be one of the most popular choices for the younger generation. Yet, when Beauty and the Beast, a Disney movie, was given the Academy Award for best song and later became the first ever-animated movie to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture, the true value of the industry was realized.
